    Rescued by Maharaja Jai Singh II to prevent it from destruction at the hands of Aurangzeb, the Govind Ji idol was earlier established in Vrindavan from where it was brought to Jaipur in the 18th century.

    Legend has it that this idol was built by the great grand son of Shri Krishna, based on the descriptions of his grand mother.

    It is said that Lord Krishna's idol in the temple looks exactly like Krishna's form while his incarnation of Earth.

    It is said that Maharaja Jai Singh created the 'City of Victory', Jaipur as a dedication to Govind Devji. On the altar, one can see other full sized deities of Govindji, along with the one magnificent one in black marble.
